Social Security Administration Selects Convera for Intranet & Web Search

Jennifer MacAdam

Content management vendor Convera announced this week that the Social Security Administration (SSA) has chosen Convera RetrievalWare for its intranet and public internet site search solutions. Convera RetrievalWare will now serve as the engine that provides millions of American citizens and 80,000 SSA employees with the answers they need.

The SSA intranet offers employees all publicly available information, as well as access to online training, human resources and more. Visitors to the SSA Web site can apply for social security benefits online and view information about different Social Security programs. The plan is for the SSA to integrate Convera RetrievalWare into its sites to enhance the sites search capabilities.

Convera RetrievalWare enables users to index and search a wide range of information resources, including HTML and text documents, relational databases, more than 200 proprietary document formats, and groupware repositories. Advanced search capabilities include concept and keyword searching, pattern searching and query-by-example.

Convera formed out of a merger between Excalibur Intel's Interactive Media Services division. Customers and partners include ABC News, BG Technology, British Telecom, chicagotribune.com, United Airlines, Warner Bros. Online and The World Bank.
