Mistake #8 Forgetting that "Text is text and links are links"
The concept is quite simple, yet I see this mistake all the time.
Text is never underscored. Why? The convention
we've all grown up with is that links are underscored. While the text to the left
looks like it should be a link, it isn't and this is confusing and you don't want
to confuse people using your site.
- Links must be
underscored.

If you must use graphics for text, at least use the same font on every image.
Don't mix and match fonts.
There are two reasons not to use graphics for text. One, it uses up more disk
space. Two, your corporate search engines can't search the graphics for the text.
There are some fairly serious usability issues about text that I'll demonstrate
in a new window. Besides the major problems I've addressed, the issue of creating
pages for people who have a visual disability such as colorblindness has to be
taken into consideration. This link opens a new window.
4. If an image
looks like a link, it had better be a link. If you click the image at the left,
nothing happens because there's no link assigned. Don't confuse your employees.
On
the flip side, don't put links on images which don't look like they should be
links.
