Put Yahoo! On Your Intranet

"Yahoo! has built links to their portal partners so that Yahoo! customers can link their portal ID with their personal Yahoo! ID, eliminating the need to redefine the content they have already selected on their personal Yahoo! desktop. This eliminates a huge barrier to personalizing content - individuals just don't have the time to personalize the same content in more than one place." Jeff added.

Among Yahoo!'s many customers are the State of Florida, Honeywell, and CIGNA. According to Joseph Mondy, Communications Leader for CIGNA eCommerce, "We announced our offering with Yahoo! in January of this year, and we started rolling it out this summer. So far, 590,000 CIGNA members have registered, and we continue to process about 2,500 a day."

"Our goal," he continued, "is to improve our members' benefits experience. For many people, obtaining information on healthcare, group insurance, retirement and pensions is very complex and confusing. We're making it more transparent. We chose to partner with Yahoo! for several reasons: they're a big player in the industry, they offer the scalability we need for our 16 million members, and they are end-user friendly. By partnering with Yahoo! we've made it more attractive for people." Members can also put their MY CIGNA page on their My Yahoo! page and access it from home.

"There are many advantages to consider in portal implementation," Jeff concluded. "Providing a single interface for content increases productivity and speeds decision-making. It also reduces the cost of intranet sites - of which some companies have 12-100. In fact, Honeywell estimates that implementation of their portal enterprise has resulted in annual savings of $9 million. But, no matter how good the tools are, people need to use the system. With MY!EE 5.0, we've made Yahoo! content part of the business process. Now, we're looking to be the single source of external content for customers."
