The ER 3.0 brings in log files every hour and processes the data over the next hour. So while the data isn't instantly available, it's close to real-time. The report generator in the ER 3.0 processes millions of HTTP requests, up to a 30 million hit/day maximum, and supports more than 100,000 users.

While the ER 3.0 works in conjunction with 8e6's R2000 Internet filtering server, it can be built to support third-party systems with a customization option. It features online storage for all the data and reports users need to save, and networked attached storage (NAS) up to several terabytes is available.

The ER 3.0 can represent data as pie charts or bar graphs.

The client portion of the ER 3.0 doesn't physically differ from most other products that analyze Web logs. Users can navigate its interface similar to using a Web browser. There's a Back button, and reports can be recorded for future access similar to browser bookmarks or favorites.

The data presented by the ER 3.0 is more than just a bunch of numbers that make sense only to an IT professional. If the Names option is turned on, the data can be presented by user name or Windows log-in; if not, it's presented by IP address. The system allows its operator to build documentation for specific users, search for specific users and create of profile of everything a user does online. The data doesn't have to be sorted by users. If you wanted to know who was spending company time at eBay, for example, you can sort by the sites visited.

This sample report from the ER 3.0 shows which sites in specific categories were visited by the users in question.

The ER 3.0 also features user groupings and permissions so managers can examine the Internet use of only those people in their group. In addition to memorizing reports that are run on a regular basis, the ER 3.0 can also distribute reports. If looking at the numbers makes your head spin, the data can be presented as graphs and charts as well.

As for the ER 3.0 box itself, it fits on a standard 19-inch rack mount. It's built on Red Hat Linux and a mySQL database, features a Pentium 4 and 3 GB of RAM.

Each installation is tailored to individual clients based on the number of hits their online activity generates, the length of time they want data stored, and their expected growth. Pricing starts at $13,990 for a 1,000-user license.

A link-by-link account of the sites visited by a certain user is shown in this report from the ER 3.0. Each link can be clicked on to visit the page.
