NewsGator's Latest Sinks Teeth into Information Glut
Tom Dunlap 6/1/2006 NewsGator Technologies, Inc. this week released NewsGator Enterprise Server 1.3, the latest version of its market-leading, business-class RSS aggregation and distribution platform. A behind-the-firewall offering, NGES provides companies with technology for finding, distributing, and sharing RSS feeds across groups. Employees can access internal and external RSS feeds within Microsoft Outlook, a range of mobile devices, corporate portals, and the Web without having to download client-side software. NewsGator's latest comes at a time when businesses are finding benefits beyond the standard mass-consumption blogs and RSS feeds. RSS feeds are increasingly being used to put out feeds from internal blogs, internal ERP applications, e-mail, and from groups within an organization. Analysts and even Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates have lately been talking about the information glut and how to manage it. "A key business issue facing enterprises is finding the most effective way to manage the information flow of both external and internal content," said Robert McCullough, a business applications analyst with the Yankee Group. "RSS has emerged as a viable platform … to provide employees with relevant information and collaboration tools, which can directly impact efficiency and improve productivity."
