In Part 1 of this article, we showed you the basic install of the Notes client. However, that was only half the battle. Once you fire up the Lotus Notes client for the first time, you have to configure it for your environment. I'll walk you through the configuration with plenty of screenshots along the way.
The first screen you come across on a fresh Notes install lets you know that the client needs to be configured.
Click Next
The next screen asks you for your name and Notes server. This information should have been given to you by your administrator. You want to enter it exactly as your administrator has entered it on the Domino server. For example, if the administrator entered your name as Edward Wood, you want to make sure to enter it that way as opposed to say, Ed Wood.
Enter your name
Enter your server (Stormhawk/STORM in the screenshot below)
Place a checkmark next to "I want to connect to a Domino server"
Click Next
At this time, the system will ask you for an ID file. Your ID file should have been given to you by your system administrator. Your admin will also have given you a default password of some kind.
Click the Browse button to find your ID file (Each ID file has an extension of .id). Navigate to where you have the ID file stored. For this example, I have the ID on my Desktop.
Choose the ID file
Click Open
The system will ask you if you want to copy the ID file to your Notes data directory.
Click Yes
