It was a slow first day at the AIIM Expo in Boston Monday, as many exhibitors seemed more interested in the soggy Boston marathon on the hi-def TVs -- and questions about whether the Red Sox would play today -- than they were in setting up their huge booths at the cavernous Boston Convention and Exposition Center.
The AIIM Expo and its sister convention, across the breezeway -- the On Demand Expo -- make up the largest enterprise IT and printing event in the country, organizers say, bringing around 30,000 visitors and 425 exhibitors to the convention center.
So while not much was happening beyond the Boston marathon and the big nor'easter, there were some announcements today amid the din from the forklifts. I'll file more stories from the show this week.
Xerox Upgrades DocuShare
Xerox unveiled the latest version of its DocuShare enterprise content management software, and also upgraded DocuShare CPX 6.0.
Both products are designed to meet a wide spectrum of ECM requirements for businesses of all sizes -- from SMBs to large enterprises and vertical markets -- with broader, user-friendly capabilities to better define and access workflow processes.
Xerox said that unlike competitive infrastructure and suite products, DocuShare products are 100 percent Web-based, support multiple IT platforms, and are the most cost-effective ECM solutions on the market, with license agreements and volume pricing available.
"We have made it easier than ever for our customers to bridge the paper-digital divide and achieve compliance with industry standards and regulations," said David Smith, vice president of Xerox DocuShare Business Unit. "We are also leveraging innovative capabilities such as smarter XML technology, which can turn everyday office documents into actionable business forms that drive critical business processes."
DocuShare 6.0 features new technology - previously available only in the CPX version - including secure, managed blogs and wikis with "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) editing capabilities.
Other features include:
Enhanced e-mail support where e-mail content from any e-mail system can be directly sent into DocuShare.
Integration with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server and Web portal systems compliant with Java Specification Request (JSR) 168.
Improved scanning and production-level imaging capabilities that enable customers to securely process and store the high-speed submission of content such as medical records, insurance applications, or loan documents.
DocuShare CPX 6.0 also offers new capabilities, such as improved compliance reporting, workflow enhancements, and pre-defined templates that leverage XML technology to transform ordinary Microsoft Excel spreadsheets in the electronic forms, which link to databases, applications and frequently updated reports.
