Printer Friendly Version Q. I imagine that, with your setup, there might be security concerns, concerns that a company's data could be accessed by the wrong people? That's right. So they can set those permissions. … So let's say they added 1,000 users through the API, and they set the first 800 to read only, and that way those users, when they look at the intranet, can only read it. And the balance (of the users) maybe they want to give them more administrative rights … They can do that all through the API. And it can go further, where we can restrict the IP, so that it's even more restrictive. Q. [A discussion on passwords and encryption follows.] That sounds like great security. I think that people who think that that kind of data isn't secure, I don't think they understand how heavily encrypted and protected this stuff is.
I think you're absolutely right. And that's a challenge for software service companies, building that trust, and the burden is on our company to explain those security measures to our clients. You know companies like ours, the security of your data -- especially your username and login -- is the core of our business. If that's ever compromised, there's a reputation break that we might not ever be able to recover from. Q. Do you contract out your security stuff, or do you do it all in-house? No, a hundred percent of Central Desktop development is done (in-house). The security and all that, the security measures, the servers and everything that we use for our security layer is all managed by Central Desktop. Q. And you've got a small team, right? Yeah, we're a small, nimble team. … Central Desktop is really run by less than 10. [Check back next week, and read more on how that team was built, how the Central Desktop relationship with Salesforce.com is working, what Garcia thinks of social networking, and more.]
