This is one German import with a flair for organization and efficiency. The newly released IntelliEnterprise 9, an intranet solution from German-based company Adenin Technologies, offers users some impressive improvements, including new search functionality, tag clouds, profile pages, and PDF integration. It all adds up to a refined and organized way to locate exactly the data you need.
Adenin has been around since 1999, and focuses exclusively on IntelliEnterpise, its intranet solution for mid-size and large organizations. While the company is based in Nuremberg, Germany, it recently opened an office in Boston. Typical IntelliEnterprise installations run anywhere from 1 to 3,000 users, although the company's largest customer has more 20,000 users. Adenin itself has a staff of 30, with 3 in the new Boston office.
Having only one product allows the developers at Adenin to focus on customer requests and delivering updates. In fact, the company released version 8 earlier this year, offering several new communication tools, such as wikis and blogs. Now, version 9 focuses on search and organization, and promises to make users more efficient.
The big news for version 9 is the introduction of relational search. While IntelliEnterprise already offered search tools, relational search goes beyond a traditional results page and lets users drill down into the data to quickly find what they want.
IntelliEnterprise's search results page offers special grouped areas running down the left-hand side that let users quickly refine their search. Users can search only for a particular type of document, for tags associated with a document, for a certain author, category or more.
But relational search is only the beginning of IntelliEnterprise 9's additions. Here's what else you'll find:
Profile Pages
Each user can now create his or her own profile page, adding a picture and a list of interests. Users can also change the layout on their pages. It's a helpful way to lets users have some ownership over the intranet, while also creating a system for social networking within the organization.
Tag Clouds
Modeled on the Flickr.com tool, tag clouds let users see which search terms or tags are more popular in a clever, graphic format. Tag clouds are customizable and can be used in different areas of the site.
Improved Application Builder
You don't need to be a SQL developer to build custom applications with IntelliEnterpise. The intranet comes with 12 pre-made applications, which users can customize or they can start from scratch. One beta tester made an application for scheduling use of the corporate jet.
IntelliEnterprise 9 offers users some impressive improvements.
PDF Integration
With this latest IntelliEnterprise, users can create routable PDF forms, which are easier to print than the system's previous online forms. The form tool now has a PDF front-end for making forms that look as good online as printed. Dragging and dropping fields to create forms is easy enough for non-technical users.
New Portlets
IntelliEnterprise already included portlets -- small apps that administrators can add to page layouts -- and this version offers nine new ones, including a tool for listing new hires, a customizable list of shortcuts, and a list of employees with upcoming birthdays.
Pricing for IntelliEnterprise 9 starts at $900 for 10 users, and tech support is an extra $238 per year. A medium installation for a single server with an unlimited number of people costs $39,900, while an enterprise license for unlimited servers and unlimited users costs $99,999.
