'Kilen Woods:' MindTouch's Killer App?

MindTouch Technology
What is under the hood of MindTouch Deki that makes it so powerful? MindTouch Deki is built on top of MindTouch Dream (Distributed REST Application Manager). It is an open source wiki interface to web services that serve as a distributed application platform.
User experience and a rich user interface allow business users to create full-featured composite applications and mashups from dynamic data specific to their situational needs. Meanwhile a system administrator (typically an IT person) provides a level of governance through configuration of access and availability of the various data and web services. Ease of use is a draw and according to Fulkerson over 40% of the users configuring and developing using MindTouch are business analysts vs. IT professionals and software developers.
The architecture of MindTouch Deki is a composition of loosely coupled web services that are orchestrated by MindTouch Dream. The majority of the business logic is implemented in C# and because it is deployed on Linux using Mono or Windows with .NET it has cross platform appeal.
On top of the web service layer are several interfaces, the most popular and robust being PHP. It is easy to extend and program by plugging into the WOA layer using any language you prefer. So, whatever language your team already uses you can continue to use.
One nice feature of the platform is that you can perform really rich improvements to it and still remain on the upgrade path without having to re-do all the customizations.
Solutions and Pricing
All functionality within MindTouch is provided as a web service. This makes it easier to provide alternative interfaces and connectors to data stores, applications, and the desktop. For example, its Desktop Connector allows for a drag-and-drop interface between your desktop and your wiki. It is lightweight, distributed, easy to use, and collaborative.
MindTouch Deki has two editions: Community Edition (free), and Enterprise Edition.
The Enterprise Edition comes with all the adapters and systems integration features described in the Kilen Woods release and is a production ready system ready for critical business processes. Within the Enterprise Edition there are four different options which differ based on level of support (not features). Prices range from $2,495/Server/Year to $19,995/Server/Year and the full comparison chart can be found on their site. Managed hosting is available as well. .
You can download a trial version of the Community Edition of the software at their site here. A free trial download of the Enterprise Edition is expected to be available this month.
