CVSDude Offers Easy Collaboration and Support, Too
For its customers, CVSDude creates a global intranet, a safe, secure place for collaboration that isn't limited by national boundaries. And now, with its upcoming Enterprise Edition, CVSDude's customers can get a new level of support, service, and reliability.
CVSDude allows for collaborative development for people working with open source tools. Its gained 60,000 users during its five years, and is the leading product in its space. As CVSDude's user base has grown, its creators have learned that there are plenty of enterprise customers that would like to use it, but that need guaranteed uptime and telephone support. That's where the new Enterprise Edition comes in.
If the "dude" in its name suggests a no-worries, surfer lifestyle, it's no surprise that CVSDude began in Australia-- in the city of Robina, Queensland. Its roots are as a hosting provider of open source tools, and its customers range from colleges and small startups to larger organizations and even major firms. Execs might look down at the surfer name, but developers know that it's a far cheaper alternative to setting up in-house source control servers.
The company has now established a U.S. office in Palo Alto, California, to better serve the growing customer base. Approximately 65 percent of CVSDude's customers are in the States -- especially the Bay Area, Texas, New York, and Cambridge -- with another 25 percent in Europe. That's who pays the bills, anyway: many of the logins come from India and China, showing that CVSDude creates a global net for many far-flung employees.
Programmers depend on CVSDude because it offers a collaboration platform for software development. Files are stored on CVSDude's hosted server environment and can be checked in and out from any location. Team members can work on the same code, then use CVSDude to update each other with their changes. The product saves the hassle of trying to e-mail new code. It also saves the cost of creating an in-house platform to accomplish the same thing.
This spring, the CVSDude Enterprise Edition will become available, servicing the emerging user segment of large corporations, government agencies, and universities that demand guaranteed uptime, better management and integration features, improved customer support, and stronger security. This edition will offer IP lockdown, for example, only permitting use by those with specific IP addresses.
The Enterprise Edition will be for organizations with large, scalable needs. Like the other editions coming out, such as the upcoming Professional edition, it will offer an AJAX-based browser interface.
"In response to customer demand, CVSDude has created its new Professional and Enterprise product editions that offer higher levels of service to small through large businesses, universities, and government agencies," says Jason Sneed, CEO of CVSDude. "These are entirely Web-based and introduce complete system integration via our API, enhanced security controls, improved account visibility and administrator tools, uptime guarantees, and a live helpdesk."
When the Enterprise Edition launches, it will also offer platform partners that provide related services. Customers will be able to add videoconferencing or screen sharing, for example, from third-party providers. The company hasn't announced any names yet, however, and is still in discussions with possible partners.
