AT&T Labs To Build On XML-Based Portal from DataChannel

XMLFramework will enable integrated publishing, notification and personalization of content via browser

AT&T Labs today inked an agreement with XML pioneer DataChannel to license DataChannel's XMLFramework technology to explore the development of next-generation network services. AT&T Labs plans "to rapidly prototype new e-commerce offerings" that can exchange and manage information in a reliable, secure way, the company said in a release.

"XML is becoming the universal language for data exchange," said Dado Vrsalovic, Vice President of AT&T Labs. "DataChannel's EIP [Enterprise Information Portal] solution will provide us with functionality to help address the convergence of networks and multiple media types."

DataChannel's RIOTM, an EIP application server based on XML, creates Enterprise Portals by providing data access and advanced administration capabilities, including N-tier support for access, configuration, and entitlements.

RIO is part of an architectural framework for XML systems that enables DataChannel to provide comprehensive design and consulting integration services, as well as tools, solution software and maintenance and support offerings. AT&T Labs will work closely with DataChannel to prototype next-generation network services. Further details of the relationship, which DataChannel commented was "currently unrelated" to its co-development work with Microsoft Corp., will be disclosed this summer.
