With intranet groupware, your
organization can gain a competitive edge by helping employees communicate, coordinate,
and collaborate. Intranet as Groupware, by Mellanie Hills, is for those interested in
how to successfully implement intranet groupware. It helps you select the appropriate products
and deploy them in your organization, and also examines the people issues that affect
implementation.
With the help of information gleaned from 13 large companies, including
EDS, JCPenney, and Texas Instruments, this book:
- Gives examples of how to use intranet groupware
- Explores more than 40 intranet groupware products, including web-enabled
proprietary groupware
- Provides step-by-step guidelines and checklists for planning and implementing
intranet groupware
- Helps to overcome the people and change issues that make groupware
difficult to implement
There are electronic versions of the checklists for downloading at http://www.knowledgies.com/book2.htm.
There's also an updated, hyperlinked appendix.

Rating=9: I go back to this book for insights again and again.
With so much hype about intranets and groupware, it was amazing to find
a book on these topics whose author: 1) writes from experience; 2) isn't
a biased booster; and 3) balances technology issues with a first-rate understanding
of the needs of people and organizations. If you want a hands-on, practical,
step-by-step guide to understanding groupware and using an intranet to
create it, I don't think you will be disappointed with this book. I recommend
it highly and happily.
